We're Winners

Momentarily pushing modesty aside, Farm & Country is pleased to report that its editorial staff was again recognized with awards at the Canadian Farm Writers Federation annual meeting in Niagara Falls, Oct. 25. The Farm & Country winners, including award category and a brief description of the recognized story, are:

John Muggeridge: Gold, Press Feature, Farmer's Killing Fields (about child safety on farms);

John Muggeridge: Bronze, Press Editorial, Farmer's Killing Fields;

Tom Button: Silver, Press Feature, Canada's First Farmer's (about native Ontario farmers);

Tom Button: Silver, Monthly Press Reporting, Farming to Feed the World (about the prospects in foreign markets for Ontario farmers);

Bernard Tobin: Bronze, Monthly Press Reporting, Rubbing Out Farm Debt (about how farmers' are managing their debt loads and considering expansion).

The judging panel was comprised of editors, writers and instructors at newspapers. magazines and journalism schools across the country. While Farm & Country takes considerable pride in its own success, we'd also like to pass on congratulations to all honoured writers and their publications. The very existence of the awards is a measure of the vibrancy and quality of the farm writing press in Canada that strives to meet the needs of commercial farmers and the agricultural supply community.

Muggeridge has donated the $300 honorarium that came with his Gold Award to a Farm Safety Association child safety program.
